Our group sought to better understand the difference between the Western and Indigenous Perspectives of the Arctic as made evident through art. For both perspectives, we looked at landscape art including photography and screens/etchings/illustrations, as well as lifestyle art including art centered around hunting/gathering, representation in the home, and religious/spiritual life. We looked at art across these various ideas in the hope to develop a better conception of the lifestyle of the Arctic from multiple perspectives. In aggregate, this would paint a more complete picture of how such different cultures perceived the same place.

The following pages show both the Indigenous and Western perspectives on Arctic lifestyle and landscape.
