Knight Family - After Expedition

This page is a window into the lives of the Knight family and their relationship with Vilhjalmur Stefansson. The death of Lorne Knight was unexpected from his father as he had faith in Stefansson and their constant communication would only further keep his hopes high. Unfortunatley, the worst possible scenario for everyone ended up happening leaving the Knights son-less and Stefansson friend-less.

Despite the death of Lorne Knight mutual respect was held to both parties and this letter is proof of Stefansson's respect to John Irvine (Lorne's father) as well as maybe a little bit of survivors guilt. This letter is Stefansson taking it upon himself to pay back John Irvine all of the money that his son had invested in the The Stefansson Arctic Exploration and Development Company Limited. Stefansson does not participate in any of the small talk that he used to write with John and this letter is all business. This stark change in writing style from before shows that the relationship has changed between them and things between them are in high tensions. Some if not of the trust that John showed Stefansson before and during the expedition had likely disappeared into thin air and Stefansson was aware of this. This letter is the least that he could do and even though he did not have the money in the moment because the trip was such a disaster, the commitment to John was a nice gesture.
