A Similar Uncommon Experience: Dr. Woody Lee '68
Dr. Woody Lee '68
Though the experience of Ms. Fairley seemed to be uncommon, it was not uncommon for Dr. Woody Lee.
Like Fairley, Dr. Lee comes from a family with extensive education, with his grandfather having earned an Ivy League degree. His grandfather's accompluishment, in addition to Dr. Lee's own middle-class upbringing, made studying at an elite institution such as Dartmouth an early goal.
During his time on campus, Dr. Lee was involved in movements for social change, especially the infamous George Wallace event that was pivotal to Black activism on campus.
He also found a great community with his Black peers. As one of the founders of both the Afro-American Society and BADA, his legacy continues.
Following his time at Dartmouth, Dr. Lee graduated from the Yale School of Medicine where he not only became a renowned doctor but also influenced the lives of many Black students as one of the few Black medical professors and an Associate Dean.
To this day, Dr. Lee is passionate about staying engaged with the Black community at Dartmouth and he appreciates the opportunity to mentor young minds.
