Change, Character, and Connection: The Dartmouth Experience of Stuart Simms '72 (James McCarthy '23, Fall '22)
This project is centered around an interview with Mr. Stuart Simms, a member of the Dartmouth class of 1972. Mr. Simms is a native of Baltimore and graduated from the Gilman School in 1968 as part of the school’s first generation of black graduates, and matriculated to Dartmouth that same year. Here in Hanover, he was a captain of the football team in 1971 and won three Ivy League championships as a player. He was an executive in the Afro American Society and also a senior fellow. Following his graduation cum laude with a degree in government, he went on to Harvard Law School, from which he graduated in 1975. After that, he ascended throughout the Maryland legal ranks as a public defender before transitioning to private practice in 2003. Throughout his remarkable professional career, Mr. Simms has been very proud to be a Dartmouth graduate and to this day is very much honored to represent the College.
