A Glimpse of the Pioneers (Kambrian Winston '26, Fall '22)

Wanda Johnson Powell is a member of Dartmouth College’s Class of 1973, making her one of the first Black women to graduate from the institution. This exhibit showcases Powell's experience at the Big Green, Dartmouth’s journey to coeducation, a groundbreaking Black women’s conference in spring 1973, and the foundations of Black organizations and programs. In the rolling hills of New Hampshire, isolated and away from their families, Dartmouth’s first Black students established a supportive community, making the Black experience what it is today.
