Description
-
An excerpt from Yunsian Tai '96's poem "In My Beginning". The poem reads:
"The first day of school my name was changed.
Daddy told Mrs. Niemic I was Yunsian
but she said to the rest of the first graders
'Class, this is Yuncine'
It must have seemed like I had red crabapples inside my cheeks
stretching my skin thin so the color showed underneath
preventing me from moving my mouth to speak
for now and for the rest of my elementary school years."
